We’re still waiting for news about the International Experience Canada programme for UK and Irish passport holders. While waiting it’s worth checking your passport. Do you know where it is? Have you checked when it runs out?
Your passport must be valid for the duration of the work permit (based on 2012, 1 year for British passport holders and (new for 2013) Irish passport get 2 years). If your passport is due to expire while you are away the IEC work permit expiry will coincide with your passport validity.
Be proactive and use this time to check that your passport is in order. Here are a few tips:
Validity. Check the expiry date of your passport. If it is due to expire while you are away, apply for a new one now.
Condition. Your passport must be in good condition. Pay particular attention to the biometric page which includes the photo. If this is damaged, or if the plastic coating is coming away you should apply for a replacement.
Replacing a passport. Your passport number and dates of validity will change so you will need the new passport before completing your IEC forms.
